How do I get started?
The first step is to provide us with a script which typically outlines the scope of the project. Animation is typically quoted one three main aspects: length, complexity and technique, all of which are often described in a script. If you don’t have a script, don’t worry: often enough a short call is enough to get a solid understand of what’s required. Once we’ve agreed on the scope of the project and costs, a detailed invoice is provided and, upon collecting a deposit, we officially kick off production. Request a consultation to get started.
What’s the typical turnaround time?
A typical 60-90 second video takes about 4-6 weeks to develop, depending on factors like animation style, video length, and project complexity. More intricate videos may require 8 weeks or longer based on scope and quantity. The timeline also varies depending on the animation technique: whether it’s 2D motion graphics, character animation, 2.5D, 3D, whiteboard, or a mix. If there is a looming deadline, we can often expediate the development by adding additional artists to the project at an increase in budget.
How long should I make my video?
Most animated marketing videos are typically 1-2 minutes long, while short animated TV commercials or online ads range from 6 to 30 seconds. If your content requires more detail, a longer video may be necessary. The longer the video is, the more costly it can be. While Hatch Studios has developed videos as long as 20 minutes, they can be quite costly.
How many revisions are included?
Depending on the budget and timeline, most projects will usually have at least three rounds of revisions. That means there may be a round of revisions assigned to scripting, a round assigned to animation, and a round assigned to compositing, for example. Revisions tend to take up the most amount of time so some clients prefer to have fewer which reduces costs, while others prefer to have more which increases costs. At then end of the day, you can decide how many revisions you want to have, outside of those already included with the project.
Do I have full ownership of the final video?
Once the video is complete and payments are settled, you fully own the video and are free to use it as you wish, and in perpetuity. Hatch Studios retains the right to display the final video in its portfolio and social media for marketing purposes. Additionally, Hatch Studios retains ownership of the working files used to develop the video, which are in-line with industry practices. If you wish to receive the working files, this is usually negotiated through what is called a buy-out fee. All these terms are clearly disclosed in the quote before a project is agreed upon.

Our video production process begins with a discovery call to understand your vision, define goals, and outline deliverables. From there, we develop storyboards, design visuals, and bring everything to life through animation. How much does animation cost?
The cost of creating an animated video depends on three key factors: complexity, length and technique. Complexity refers to how detailed the visuals and animation need to be. Length refers to the video duration. Technique refers to the medium such as 3D animation, 2D animation, stop-motion, motion graphics, whiteboard, etc. It is impossible to estimate a cost until these three key factors have been discussed. We always strive to work within your budget and we can recommend options to reduce costs, though a more flexible budget allows for greater creative freedom.
