This spec ad developed by Hatch Studios for the Land Rover Defender, serves as a groundbreaking case study in hybrid AI production by combining emotive storytelling with photorealistic generative visuals. The spot utilizes a sophisticated stack of AI platforms – including Nano Banana for initial environment staging, VEO 3.1 for fluid motion, and heavy duty compositing in After Effects for logo tracking, color correction, post-production and more.

Dynamic shots depict the Defender traversing challenging terrains ranging from desert sand dunes, to deep forest trails, to the alpine snowbelt. To maintain the brand’s high-fidelity standards, the team used Topaz for generative upscaling and integrated vehicle logos to ensure the AI-generated Defender remained as close as possible to the physical model. This approach allowed the creators to produce 100% of the vehicle visual content without the use of costly film visual effects, demonstrating how generative tools can achieve gorgeous aesthetics while significantly expanding creative scale and efficiency.
